The Buddhism faith was first introduced into Ladakh during the reign of Asoka, up wards of 2000 years ago, when that great follower of Buddha was propagating his new religion with all the zealous ardor of a proselyte.
In the 241 BC. At the close of the third synod, numerous missionary teachers were dispatched to all the surrounding countries to spread the peaceful doctrines of Buddha Shakya Muni. Thais evidence researched by Alexander Cunningham and Csoma deKoros, and living heritage of Ladakh still to be seen, like Naro Meditation cave in zunkul Monastery, Sani Rock craved Buddha, Kanika Stupa, rock carved Buddha in Padum Zanskar, 7m high rock craved Buddha in Suru valley, Mulbak and Dha Hanu region also many rock craved Buddha and animals to be seen in Ladakh Khaltse, Alchi, Tangtse.
Many wonderful 10th 11th century wall paintings still today alive in Ladakh Himalaya, like Alchi, Mangu, sumda, Kanji, wanla, Spituk and many more to explore.
